Rocky Mount, Va. (November 25, 2025) – The Franklin County Family YMCA is celebrating a season of generosity as the organization wraps up its annual Keeping the County Warm coat drive. Thanks to incredible support from the community the YMCA provided over 100 coats to STEP, Inc. in Rocky Mount. These donations will help ensure that children and families across Franklin County stay warm throughout the winter months.

“We’re always inspired by how our community shows up for one another,” said Jessica Thomason, Rocky Mount Branch/Membership Director. “Together with local partners like Sleep Safe Beds and STEP, Inc., we’re able to make a meaningful impact for families who need it most.”

Angel Tree Program Supporting 203 Local Children

The spirit of giving continues with the YMCA’s Angel Tree program, which is currently underway. This year, the Y is collecting Christmas gifts for 203 children in Franklin County. Community members who have taken an angel are reminded that all gifts must be returned by December 13th with the angel tag attached to ensure timely distribution to families.

January Joining Special Begins December 15th

To carry the spirit of compassion into the new year, the YMCA is launching its January Joining Special early. Beginning December 15th, anyone can join the Y for free when they donate three canned goods. All collected food items will be donated to local food banks, supporting neighbors facing food insecurity after the holidays.

“We’re proud to offer opportunities for our community to give back while also focusing on their own health and well-being,” Thomason shared. “Every can of food, every coat, every Angel Tree gift makes a difference.”
