Franklin County, Va. (February 16, 2026) –The YMCA is pleased to welcome Matthew Hogan as its new Fitness Director, bringing with him a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Matthew is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Class of 2003. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After completing his military service, Matthew continued his dedication to public service through a 10-year career in law enforcement, serving communities across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Driven by a passion for helping others, Matthew later pursued entrepreneurship, successfully growing multiple businesses within the community. He currently serves as President of The Fatherhood Encouragement Project VA, an organization dedicated to strengthening families and supporting fathers. His commitment to mission-based work is further reflected in his service on the Board of Directors for the Kirk Family YMCA, along with several other nonprofit boards.

Matthew’s passion for service, leadership, and wellness aligns seamlessly with the YMCA’s mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As Fitness Director, he is focused on expanding inclusive, engaging fitness opportunities while also growing and strengthening youth sports offerings at the Y—creating positive experiences that help young people build confidence, skills, and lifelong healthy habits.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys playing ice hockey, coaching youth sports, attending concerts, and mentoring others. Above all, his greatest joy is his family — his wife Jessica, daughter Addy, stepdaughter Marlee, and stepson Austin.

“Time and memories with family, and serving others, is what life is about,” Matthew shares. “I am excited to continue the YMCA’s mission, expand youth sports opportunities, and be a resource for our community—helping others grow, develop, and reach their full potential.”

The YMCA is excited to welcome Matthew to the team and looks forward to the positive impact his leadership will bring to Franklin County.
