Franklin County, Va. (January 5, 2025) –Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Franklin County community, the YMCA’s Angel Tree program was a tremendous success this holiday season. With the support of local members, families, and partners, more than 1,000 Christmas gifts were collected to help brighten the holidays for 203 local children.

The Angel Tree program invites community members to “adopt” an angel and shop for gifts for children in need. This year, the response exceeded expectations, ensuring every child served received meaningful, thoughtfully chosen presents.

“We are incredibly grateful for our community,” said Jamie Stump, Childcare Director. “The kindness and generosity shown through this program truly reflects the heart of Franklin County. Because of our supporters, hundreds of children experienced the joy and magic of Christmas.”

Due to the success of this year’s program, the YMCA also received many questions from families interested in participating in future Angel Tree programs. Parents or guardians who feel their child may benefit are encouraged to speak with the resource staff or guidance counselors at their child’s school.

As the YMCA looks ahead to the new year, the spirit of giving continues. In January, the Y is offering a special New Year joining promotion that encourages both wellness and community support. New members can join the YMCA for $0 at signup by donating three canned food items, which will be distributed to local families in need.

“This promotion is a wonderful way to give back while committing to your own health and well-being,” the YMCA shared. “It’s another opportunity for our community to come together and make a positive impact.”

The YMCA remains committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. For more information about membership, programs, or upcoming events, visit your local YMCA.
