The Franklin County YMCA is excited to announce the start of its annual 2nd Grade Swim Lessons Program, beginning Monday, September 15th. This signature program equips local second graders with essential water safety skills while building confidence, promoting health, and creating lifelong habits around the importance of swimming.

The YMCA believes that every child should have the opportunity to learn how to be safe around water. Through these lessons, second graders will not only learn basic swimming techniques but will also gain the confidence needed to enjoy water activities safely—a vital skill set for families in our community.

To make this program possible, the YMCA pool will be closed Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. during the program. The Y appreciates the community’s understanding and support as we dedicate this time to strengthening the safety and well-being of our youngest neighbors.

This program thrives thanks to the generosity and involvement of the community. The Y invites everyone to play a role in helping it succeed through:

“The 2nd Grade Swim Program is one of the most impactful things we do at the Y,” said Kameron Kitts, Aquatics Director. “By teaching kids to be safe and confident in the water, we are not only saving lives, but also empowering the next generation with skills they’ll carry with them forever.”

The YMCA encourages the community to join in making a difference by supporting this transformative program. Together, we can ensure that every child has the tools they need to stay safe and thrive in and around the water.
