Rocky Mount, Va. (February 10, 2022) – For seniors at Franklin Health Care, the YMCA children who participated in Monday’s Fun Club provided some extra love for this Valentine’s Day.
41 children in the Franklin County Family YMCA Fun Club program decorated 100 valentines on February 7th. The valentines will be delivered to seniors at Franklin Health Care center on February 14th.
“It’s a good thing to help others and be kind, and provide a sense of community to people who may feel isolated or lonely,” said Jamie Stump, YMCA Childcare Director. “Everyone deserves to feel a little special on Valentine’s Day.”
Lexi Hall, 8 years old, and student at Boones Mill Elementary focused intently as she finished off her first Valentine’s Day card.
All of the YMCA’s youth programs incorporate outreach projects to support its Character Counts curriculum. Character Counts uses the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship as a foundational strategy for development while having fun! These values were identified by a group of youth development experts in 1992 as core ethical values that transcend cultural, religious, and socioeconomic differences.
“I think it’s a really nice thing,” Lexi said. “I think it’ll make people very happy and make them smile. I like Valentine’s Day and seeing all of the flowers, chocolates and teddy bears in the stores too.”
