FRANKLIN COUNTY

One of the fastest growing counties in all of western Virginia, Franklin County is home to several large employers, such as Ronile and MW Manufacturers, and has a school system that boasts a number of outstanding accomplishments in recent years. Ferrum College, a well-respected four-year accredited college, calls Franklin County home, and Virginia Tech is just an hour away. Having the metropolitan center of Roanoke immediately next door provides many more employment and educational opportunities.
With the Blue Ridge Mountains rising on the western edge, and the recreational waters of Smith Mountain Lake on the eastern border, Franklin County is an outdoors paradise. Hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and other water sports are available just a quick drive from any front porch, and beautiful vistas and scenery surround every home.
The local government oversees a nationally-accredited law enforcement department, and the public recreation and parks programming is outstanding. Rocky Mount, the county seat and largest demographic center in the county (located in the county's geographical center), is home to a number of fine restaurants and cultural programs, and is especially known as a major stop on the Crooked Road, a national tourism program for bluegrass and mountain music and crafts.
